Description

Pearl is a lovely example of a Maurice Griffith design Bawley Yacht. Built by the Johnson and Jago Co of Leigh on Sea.1961  A Classic little weekender.
She has been cosmetically well maintained,  she has stood out of the water, under cover since for several long years through .” Covid Times. ”
Her mast and spars have been stripped back, professionally repaired where necessary and revarnished. She was re antifouled.
The hull is suffering from drying out, there are seams which require re caulking . Topsides requires fairing back and recaulking where necessary.

She sits in her own bespoke cradle, new 2022.   In her present ownership since 2018.

Engine

Engine Description: Yanmar  3GM 30, 27hp, three cylinders, sited in the companionway. Installed, new 2001 ,single lever control, in the open cockpit (forward, neutral and reverse).

Throttle and stop control. Electric start. Shaft driven, Three bladed bronze propeller. Sea water cooled.
Fuel Type: diesel   Fuel tank is presently full, capacity unknown.

Construction:

     

A single displacement carvel planked hull with Mahogany planking on steamed and bent frames and ribs. Sawn floors. All paint finished. Transom stern
Raised/ glazed dog house roof with sliding hatch into the cabin, double companionway doors. Fore hatch over forepeak cabin.
Coach roof extends over the full beam of the vessel. Fixed portlights in the coach roof sides, an opening light, forward facing.
A cast iron ballast keel through bolted to the hull. Internal lead ingot trimming ballast.
Planking caulked, exterior and interior paint/ varnish finish. Grey gloss topsides.
Decks of ply wood epoxy sheathed and painted (White and Grey) .
A deep open aft cockpit. slatted cockpit sole.

   

Accommodation:

     

Open saloon with galley facility and navigation station with chart table.
Forepeak has 2 x single “V” berths with an infill, with stowage beneath. 6ft in length. Berth cushioning all upholstered fabric, all kept in dry store, in good condition.
Head room in the cabin 5ft – 5ft 4ins.  Portable heads unit by Suncamp.
A wood/ coal burning stove is set to starboard of the saloon between the galley and the forward bulkhead. opposite is a single settee (third) berth.
Galley is starboard side equipped with two burner gas cooker with grill, Gas bottle stowed in cockpit, a plastic washbowl inset into the worksurface. Stowage cupboards below. Curtaining at the portlights in the Saloon.
Fresh water supply in plastic jerry cans x 2.
12v Cabin lighting. 2 x Air vents and the chimney through the coach roof.

Inflatable tender stowed with oars stowed in the cockpit .

Making her easy to load onto flat bed transport or standing ashore.

Canvass cockpit tent cover extends forward over the sliding hatch.

Sails:

  

Bermudan cutter rig.
Wooden mast,(deck stepped), sat in tabernacle. varnished boom and bumpkin approx. 1m. Carries a plank bowsprit of approx.1m
Main sail with two reefing lines. Track up the mast and laced onto the boom.
Main sail cover. Booming out pole.
A stay sail, both in traditional tan colour. In a usable condition. Sail bags.
Traditional rope sheets and halyards. Tufnol blocks. Galvanised bottle screws.
A galvanised pin rail is fitted to the mast. Approx. 1m off the deck.
2 x sheet winches on the coach roof. winch handle. Varnished cross trees.
Main sheet block attached to the end of the boom down to s/s eyebolts each side of the aft deck.
