Description

This is a Saxon class wooden sailing yacht designed by Alan Buchanan, built by Priors of Burnham on Crouch, Essex in 1957. Her design is typical of cruiser racing yachts of the period with a long keel, counter stern, rigged as a masthead Bermudan sloop. A single displacement hull, carvel planked of Honduras Mahogany on Canadian Rock Elm frames. A long Iron ballast keel. Teak decks laid on marine plywood.
Decks and cockpit coated with clear Coelan coating. Coachroof varnished. A serious Classic Cruiser Racer.
In her present ownership she has been well maintained. She has undergone some extensive refitting 2006, Recently surveyed May 2021, requiring the replacement of several hull planks Mahogany used Iroko. Works having been completed she was launched back in the water , Now ” in commission.”
During her life she has performed well when raced, the last 15 years she has achieved notable success in the local Regattas.
A new Beta Marine engine was installed 2015, She has had a new suit of sails made for her, 2017.
She is currently registered as an historic vessel.

Construction:

Several planks on her portside were replaced early 2021. She has been repainted, boot top and antifouling. May 2021 insurance survey carried out.

Accommodation:

She offers a good 6ft 4ind throughout the accommodation.Companionway steps down from the open aft cockpit. To port is the galley facility with a single sink and a Dometic spirit stove.
To starboard there is a pilot berth and the chart table navigation station.
Going forward the saloon with 2 x opposing settee berths drop leaf dining table. Shelving and cupboard behind the settee backs and below.
12 v cabin lighting, manual hand pump on water system.
Blown hot air heating system
Amidships under the mast deck to Starboard is a large hanging cupboard. to port are the Heads with privacy doors. The whole forepeak has a full sized double berth, with a bespoke mattress.
