A Classic Buchanan Sloop, “Norman” Class, design built to Lloyds A-100 standard. at the St Osyths Boatyard, Essex, 1962.



Undergoing an extensive restoration programme since 2008, working with her original line drawings and details, letters penned by Alan Buchanan himself.
Unfortunately her present owner has been recently diagnosed with an aggressive cancer and although fit at the moment, his prognosis is not compatible with finishing his project and have his yacht sailing again.
Much work on the yacht has been completed, there is a comprehensive record of the progress with lots of photos. She has been re-caulked, new re-skinned coach roof, decks repaired, new glass installed, the rudder has been rebuilt, and much, much more. Including a beautiful new mast and boom, made by Collars to the original drawings but with a loose footed boom and slab reefing.
She is presently housed in a Boatshed on a Boatyard, North Essex.
A fantastic project which requires finishing.

A Fast Cruiser built to Lloyds A-100 standards.
Carvel planked in 1inch Iroko, all copper fastened to Rock elm steamed timbers, stands in a white primed state ready for top coat.
External Iron ballast keel. Keel bolts last drawn in 2005. Galvanised strap floors.
Self draining cockpit. Deck Construction: 5/8” Marine ply covered with epoxy sheathed varnished teak toe rail.
Decks ready for priming and Hempels non slip deck paint, Grey
Super Structure Construction: 3/8” Marine ply/West system cloth on Oak Beams.
Teak coach roof sides and housings, all varnished.
Super Structure Coach roof paint finish in Hempels White gloss.


Headroom: 6ft Main Cabin,  5ft 6 in Forepeak
Berth Lengths: 2 off 6ft 3ins as Quarter Berths, 2 x off 6ft Settee Berths.
Berth cushioning: patterns have been made taken for renewing.
Taylors Paraffin double burner cooker (requires re installing).

Single stainless steel sink with freshwater pump and overboard discharge pump.
Taylors paraffin heater (to be re installed in Saloon against Forward bulkhead.

To the original Buchanan Spar plan with all new stainless steel fittings and Bronze winches,
Bronze main sail track and Spinnaker pole track.
New, Sitka Spruce hollow boom by Collars with all new stainless fittings
New, Kicker fittings built for loose footed slab reefed main sail.
Original hollow Spruce spinnaker pole bronze ends which has been professionally restored.

Sail Wardrobe: Usable a Genoa, a Genoa No:2, a Tri-sail, a Storm Jib

All cleaned and repaired, where necessary by Lawrence Sails, stowed in sail bags.

Main sail unserviceable with original roller reefing, (replacement required).
Head sail hanked on

Standing rigging wires (Required)
Running rigging needs to be commissioned, the intention to use Dyneema
Lewmar single speed Halyard Winch plus the original Merriman Bronze Main sail wire winch (it was planned to be replaced, with a new mast mounted winch)
Sheet winch a Bronze bottom action Gibb winch, in good order
