During the 1950’s, Whisstock’s boats were being designed by Kim Holman, and this team including J Francis Jones who together with the West Mersea sail-maker Paddy Hare, they created some of the iconic racing and sailing yachts on the East Coast and further afield. Calloa is certainly very similar to Holman’s Elizabethan 29. She was built to Lloyds A100 standard. carvel Teak planked hull on steamed Oak frames. An external lead ballast keel.
She has undergone major restoration works which have included the replacement of the stem post and decks (painted, epoxy coated marine ply), works carried out at the IBTC, 2012. Hull was stripped back to bare, 3 years ago, re-caulked where necessary and repainted. 2 years ago a reconditioned Yanmar GM10 engine was installed. Standing rigging replaced just two years ago. The accommodation is where works are required.
