The Blackwater Sloop a popular Classic pocket-cruiser design of her day.
‘Vydra’, built in 1961, designed and built in Maldon, Essex. She has the popular raised-topsides layout of design and as a result benefits from having comfortable sitting headroom and greater cabin space below plus a larger, more useable flat deck space. Her Yanmar diesel engine has been stripped down and rebuilt by Woodbridge Boat Yard, 2020 and now requires re installing.
She carries a Bermudian rig with a furling head sail that flies from a short fixed bowsprit. The backstay is attached to a fixed bumpkin, aft.
Last season when she was relaunched after transportation, she sank overnight on her mooring. Once refloated she was bought ashore and stripped out. Her sails have been valeted, the engine was taken out and she and all her gear was rinsed down. She now requires some re-caulking and the re fastening/replacement of a couple of ribs which have been disturbed.
